This has primarily to do with less clutter in The Hindu.
The Hindu is a very good newspaper for competitive exams because it focuses only on news that appeals to an intellectual audience. This means it would be easy for you to select what is to be read and what need not be read.
Having said that, I am not of the opinion that The Hindu is the best newspaper on offer. As a person who has regularly followed The Hindu, Business Standard, LiveMint, Times of India and Indian Express, I must say that each of these newspapers bring something different to the table.
For example, whenever someone mentions The Hindu is a good paper, they also mention in the same breath that Times of India is a “bad” newspaper. I find this view shallow. I have followed Times of India for a quite a long time and have found it to be of very high standard. However, it also needs to be understood that they are trying to be everyone’s paper and therefore you will have to be mature enough to understand what to read and what not to read. Some of the columns in TOI, their editorials etc. are of very high standard.
The same thing can be said of the Indian Express.
These days, I read only TOI and LiveMint, because I like them more than Hindu. Therefore, if you know what to read, don’t stick to the The Hindu itself. Read a paper that you find more to your taste.
