As a person who speaks both languages, and having watched both the movies ( Big time Vijay fan. Therefore watched the Tamil version also) I found the original Malayalam version to be better. However, it might be unfair to compare the two.
All remakes are generally made to suit the tastes of the audience for which it is generally made. The kind of humour that a Tamilian enjoys might not be enjoyable to a Malayali. This might be the reason the audience of the original movie dislike the remade versions of most movies.
