It depends on the service that you get selected to.
For example, in case of IRS(IT), IPS etc, the respective academies allow you to join and then go on EOL but once you join back you can’t attempt the examination during your probationary period.
In case of services like IAAS, you can’t get EOL but you can attempt the exam as many number of times as you want to.
