Can a cigarette be a factor for medical in the UPSC?

Not unless you have some lung infection or the lung capacity of a 2 year old.

In the medical examination, they look at your chest expansion and also x-ray your chest. The first one assesses your lung capacity among other things while the second one makes sure you don’t have any infections in your lungs.

I am not aware of the medical science behind all this but, long story short, cigarette smoking needn’t cause any issues in your medical. I have many friends who smoke more than a train and still passed the medical with flying colours.
